Convert an image to text
Get the printed words out of a picture so you can copy and edit them.
This tool is almost ready
We are finishing it now. The guide below shows how it will work.
How do I get text from an image without uploading it?
Open FilesAll's Image to text tool and add a JPG, PNG or HEIC image. FilesAll reads the printed words and shows them as text you can copy, or save as a .txt file. Paragraphs and line breaks are kept. The reading happens in your browser on your own device, so the image is never uploaded.
How to convert an image to text in 3 steps
Add your image
Press Choose files, drag an image onto the page, or paste a screenshot. JPG, PNG and HEIC all work.
Check the language
The language of this site is picked for you. Choose another if the text in your image is in a different language.
Copy or download the text
Press Copy to copy the text, or Download to save it as a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read handwriting?
No. FilesAll reads printed or typed text. Handwritten notes are not supported.
Will tables and columns come out right?
Paragraphs and line breaks are kept, but tables, columns and fonts are not rebuilt. Text from a table comes out as plain lines you may need to tidy.
How do I know if a word was read wrong?
Words FilesAll is unsure about are highlighted, so you can check them against the image before you copy the text.
Which languages can it read?
It reads many languages. The first time you use a language, its reading data downloads once and is then saved in your browser. Chinese, Japanese and Korean data is larger, so FilesAll shows the size before it downloads.
What if my text is in a PDF?
Use PDF to text. It reads PDFs directly, and it can also read scanned PDFs page by page.
Is FilesAll free?
Yes. You can use FilesAll free every day without signing up, and the tool shows how many free files you have left today. A free account gives you more each day, and Pro removes the daily limit.
Do I need to install anything?
No. FilesAll works in the web browser you already have, on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone and Android. There is nothing to install, and you do not need an account to start.
Are my files uploaded?
No. FilesAll does all the work inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to our servers or anyone else's, and they disappear when you close the tab.
Want to check for yourself? Your browser's developer tools list every request this page makes. None of them carries your file.
